Craig Fison.

I grew up in a very industrial lower working class area South of Perth called Kwinana. No opportunities or even direction was given to me by either my parents or schools do with the arts.

I was told by the guidance officer at high school I would never make a living in the arts. But great perseverance and hard work has kept me employed for a lot of my years either tiny jobs or community work or film of the highest caliber.

It’s a very very hard road no matter how successful, there’s always so much uncertainty in the Arts but passion and what the arts can do for people and communities drives me and all the tribe members of the arts and crafts.

I have built up a very good reputation over the last 9 years living in regional Victoria and feel very proud of what I have achieved. I have worked with Kurnai Elders on the Drouin Memorial park Sculptures, enabling me to tell their story visually.

With over 25 years in film, theatre and construction, Craig has a strong design eye and has been praised for his broad talent and innate skill at bringing directors visions to life on set. Working as Art Director on Academy Award winning director Adam Elliot's first feature film, the stop-motion animated ‘Mary and Max’ (2009), Craigs contributions to the film were enormous.

“As Art Director he was an invaluable and intrinsic part of its creation, execution and ultimately world wide success. His efficient and effective work with our limited resources and his commitment to the vision of our film speaks of his dedication to his craft and to the creative industry in which we work. This was no small task: for this was a huge production with its 52 week shoot and over 1500 art department assets which had to be designed, built, approved and shot. Who knows where we would have been without him!”

-Adam Elliot, Writer/Director

Craig brings enthusiasm, fun and good humour to the creative process, elevating people to see their full potential. He builds teams and communities around him with generosity and has a deep passion for the arts community. He’s the kind of person you want in your corner to keep you playful, inspired and believing that you can make a living out of the arts. The MAST is grateful for his support renovating..especially his extension ladder…and we can’t wait to see what further creative elements he brings to the MAST.
